Although no specific military information about Peter Schaub could be found this is what we know: The 13th NJ Infantry was recruited in Essex, Hudson and Passaic Counties with the largest number of recruits from Newark. It was formed in 1862 as one of the first (3) three-year enlistment units. The regiment went into its first battle at Antietam with only one month of training. They went on to fight at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Atlanta and the March to the sea. The broken headstone was recently found buried during a site cleanup operation in Section 1800. The monument pictured is to the 13th NJ Inf at Gettysburg. Anyone with additional information about this post please reach us through our website contact.
