Steigele Civil War Vet

JNO Steigele was born about 1823 in Germany and married his wife Christina in 1854 in Newark. They both worked as Tailors and raised one son. He served as a Private in the Civil War from 1863 to 1865 in Company “G” of the 35th NJ Infantry Regiment. He fought in the Western Campaign which included battles in Vicksburg, throughout Tennessee and was part of Sherman’s March to the Sea in Georgia. Upon his return he continued to live in Newark and work as a Tailor along with his wife. He died on March 10th 1880.
