Private Jacob L. Smollinger (aka Schmollinger) is buried in Section Y Lot 294 with his sister Mary (Schmollinger) Besson. Jacob was from Newark and served in WW I. He was shipped over to France in September 1918 as part of Medical Replacement Unit #24. Unfortunately, he became sick and died withing days of arriving in Europe and it is presumed he died of influenza although not confirmed. Since he died before the end of the War and in a hospital, the Army shipped his remains home. His parents Jacob and Christina Schmollinger are buried in Section 69 Row 114 Grave 44.
